Cut off: 75% in B-Tech/ M-Tech / M.C.A

1) Online Written test

Pattern: 4 sections

SEC 1: English (25 Ques - 25 min) -- Meanings, opposites, Passages, sentence ordering etc.

SEC 2: Aptitude (25 Ques - 35 min) -- logerithems, work, distance, discount, profit & loss, Interests etc.

SEC 3: Programming (25 Ques - 25 min) -- C and Data structures

SEC 4: Logical (25 Ques - 35 min) -- Passages, coding, blood relations etc.

Sectional cutoff is present. Written is the major elimination round. In my case out of 600 only 60 are taken out from the written.

2) Group discussion

candidates can relax here. no elimination in this round.

3) Technical round

This round is little tough to the candidates who are from ece & eee. Because you will be asked to write the code for data structures problems.

My questions are :

a) write the code for inserting a node in singly linked list (inserting in first, last, middle)?

b) what is difference between Binary tree & Binary search tree?

c) write code for inserting a node in Binary search tree?

d) what is meant by scheduling and why we need it in os?

e) what is osi layer protocol (each layer functionality) and why we are not using it now?

f) what is meant by pipelining and how it is working?

g) what is the mechanism that increasing today's computer performance with respect to CO?

h) what are the process models you know?

i) compare Raid model with water fall model in SE?

I answered all because i prepared for GATE exam. only 20 are shortlisted out of 60.

4) HR Round

really my hr is cool.

He didn't asked any common question which we already prepare like tell me about yourself.

He gave me two solutionless problems and asked me to solve and give to him at least 20 solutions for each.

I understand he is testing my patience and logical ability, so i put my best to solve them.

After listening my approch, he said "its okay and you can go now".

so they take three days to give result. finally they has selected 12 out of 20. With god grace i am one of them.

I am 2010 engg passout. 19 months after passing out finally I got placed in HCL Technologies at saveetha engg, Chennai

Let me first say my interview experience.

For last 19 montths I have been searching for the right job

I started off with IBM (lost in tech test) then syntel ( lost in written) then TCS (lost in test) then Wipro, temenos, CTS, Infosys Oracle CTS testing, then few small companies. I attended nearly 12 MNC's

I was able to clear the small companies interviews to get experience to face the big ones it really worked out! I have good analytical skill but its my attitude that made me to end up with wrong answers when I solve puzzles or problems that are to be logically solved. Whenever I go and attend an MNC I can see a crowd more than 1000's of students to attend so I took the test of Various MNC's with a negative thinking that I won't be selected, I naturally get frustrated by seeing the paper.

Even though easy but lazy to solve. Its all attitude problem. So please friends dont get afraid by seeing crowds think that it's Your day and take the test. Before that look upon your attitude and be cool.

I attended the HCL test on 23rd Janunary, 2011. The test was conducted by aspiring minds

Three sections were there.

1. Verbal

Verbal it had 25 questions nearly 35 minutes time consists of synonyms for SHABBY, Adventurer antnoyms like Incessment, tenses, parajumbles, sentence correction, reading comprehension.

Its a online test so questions are arranged such that ppl get sufficent time to complete. Refer wren and martin to crack verbal. See to that verbal section holds maximum cut-off for the test.

2. Analytical

For this section 24 questions same 30 minutes time refer R.S Aggarwal resonng book to crack the test. All direct questions from that book. Like blood relation puzzles, anagrams, coding decoding, directions (maximum questions), blood relations, statement-conclusion, statement-assuomption, decison making.

3. Quantitative.

20 question 30 minutes

For this section R.S Aggarwal QA in sufficent and few CAT materials. especial for probability, permuntation and combination (maximum questions), profit loss, alligation mixures, chain rule, log was not asked but be prepared.

4. Tech comprehension

8 question 12 minutes

Comprehsenion based on unit testing and 6th sense technology ( pranav mistry) I found it easy to solve because I am From IT

I cleared the test and was called for interview on 30th Janunary, 2011 at the same college

Interviiew was a calk walk. For me It was a Tech and HR interview.

I was asked about my projects challenging modules in that. I did nearly 3 projects in ns2, mainframes and php. Explained with full energy. The HR liked my way of speaking and attitude. He asked about my personal life. etc etc and finally asked are you ready to learn from HCL? I confidently said Yes. It neva looked like a technical interview it lasted 4 10 mins.

So friends be good in English speak cofidently. Say sorry if you don't know anything.Then The most important thing is Attitude.

According to me this section is easy ��

Try to find answers based on options then it will be easy n time saving .

I am unable to remember the questions but this section is very easy !

3. Technical( 10Questions)

This section is also easy for those who are strong in programming for rest some what difficult ,but for circuit branches the cut-off marks is less when compared to CSE n IT so don�t worry .

Myself, I am K. Vineeth Kumar Reddy pursuing my Masters in Engineering(CAD/CAM)(Mechanical) from C.B.I.T., Hyderabad. CTS have given their PPT on 30-08-2011 and they have visited our college on september 16th for written test. Atotal of 800 attempted the test 640 got shortlisted for next round(Interview).

Second round was conducted on the next day i.e., today(17th sept 2011). Interviews were started at 8:30AM in the morning and ended at 3:20PM.

There were a total of 45 panels, coming to my interview it is both technical and HR combined

written part is same as what Mahesh had mentioned strictly prepare those topics and time management is very very very very important. Analytical part is easy, and in verbal Really comprehensions will kill your time. So better first try to do Correct and incorrect sentences(10 questions) and arranging jumbled sentences in order(5 questions), next you go to comprehensions.

HR: Tell me about your self and explain your B-tech project?

Me: Told completely and aswered his querries on my project (Please be confident about your project because thats ur own project if you could not explain your project properly you may face problems)

HR: Tell me about your family background?

ME:told

HR: what are your areas of interest in B.tech?

ME: told that strength of materials, mechatronics, motion control design, Thermodynamics, composites, etc

HR: He asked questions on I.C.Engines, aircraft materials, machine design, production technology

ME: told perfectly and he was impressed for my answers

HR: Asked me some questions from my resume about my paper presentations achievements,etc

ME: told he seemed to be satisfied

HR: asked about my ongoing M.Tech project

ME: told

HR: said very nice to meet you

ME: I said thanks

ME:asked him that what would a fresher need to get into cognizant???

HR:he said one must be perfect in their fundamentals of their subject and nothing much is expected from a fresher

ME: shooked his hand and said thanks and came out.

that's it this is my interview experience with cognizant and i am sure that i will be selected.

so one must me prepared with their fundamentals of their subjects and must be thorough with their projects or achievements, if they have mentioned any in their resume. Be confident and prepare well friends.

Finally results were announced at 6:00 PM. A total of 409 students got selected and I am one among them.
